The look of the gravel is good -- French estate/beer garden-ey. Switching to dark concrete tiles might make it a less inviting space. If you can find lighter tile you could add stability and not make it dark...the nighttime vibes are v good.

I really like the table and benches- good call- but not a big fan of the solid colored brown rug. Maybe consider a muted color persian- esq? Yes, go for the stone or cement in backyard. Do you plan to sand and varnish the table eventually?

You should be able to get the gravel level with a rake or a broom. It's a small size and moveable. If you can't, then paving stones won't work. The surface has to be level, or at least a continuous smooth surface even if it's slanted.

I agree 100% with every word she said. McMansions are gigantic eyesores, and to demolish a beautiful and unique historical home to replace it with a gigantic eyesore is just wrong. Personally, I think it's simple bragging. "Look at me I'm rich!" But to me it says "Look at me I'm a tasteless idiot with zero appreciation for beauty and more money than I deserve."

Pavers require some sand you have to add underneath to make sure it’s level. You might have to remove the stones that are there currently. It’s kinda involved as a diy and overpriced from a landscaper. I think if your new table is not too bothersome to get in and out of you should just keep the backyard as is.

I have that rug from Nordic Knots (Grand - walnut)! 🤎It's beautiful, but what no one mentioned is how easily dark colored plush rugs show lint/dust. (You already hinted at it.) Mine is in my bedroom, and still it gets dusty so fast. Honestly, I don't like vacuuming my area rugs more than once a week, but I think this one warrants it, especially if its in a high traffic area like a main gathering space. Also, heed Nordic Knots' guidelines about a beater brush vacuum! I made the mistake of using a rotating brush vacuum, and it frayed my rug edges. ☹

Paige that English ivy is impossible to kill or get rid off. If you want more space, hire an electric hedge trimmer and cut it back flush to the fence. It will look like crap for a couple of months but will come back so quickly, especially with a bit of water, and if you trim it back a bit once or twice a year you can keep it green and closer to the fence. I hate the stuff - once you have it you can never get rid of it, and the mosquitoes and European wasps love it to hide and breed in, but when it is the only source of green you have it is worth spending a bit of time to get it under control before it eventually pulls down your fence and takes over your entire yard.

Maybe use the old table for a buffet so people can help themselves to apps or snacks & beverages

having a German beer garden table has been on my wishlist for many years, i Lived in Berlin for a while and can't tell you how many fond memories and times i've had sat at those tables! i think you should get a cute asian straw-style mini brush to sweep the table, it would also look cute hung and maybe a mini hand hoover for the rug! (The colour looks lovely btw and works way better) i think perhaps paving it all in slabs might make it feel cold and lose its charm!? maybe leave a trimming of stones or try do a mix of big slabs and use the little stones that are already down!? also random but this vid made me realise Americans say "Or-range" and Brits say "Or-Inge" lol (I'm from London)

We have these kind of tables and benches on the summer fitrefighters parties (usually take place on the suburbs), where they raise some money from the sold tickets for the event in order to buy new equipment and similar. I come from Slovenia, Europe.
